Liquor stores face possible closure following inspection

Public health officials in Maragua Sub County accompanied by local Administration and Murang'a South security team commenced a rapid response inspection exercise of liquor stores in Saba Saba and Kamahuha towns last Tuesday.
The initiative is aimed at regulating the number of liquor stores to curb alcohol menace in central Kenya.
A total of 2,982 liquor stores are seeking application in Murang'a County, 608 of those are in Maragua Sub County.
So far a total of 884 liquor stores have been inspected with a total of 452 facing initial rejection.
In Maragua Sub County 105 stores have so far been inspected with 23 facing initial rejection.
The exercise comes to a close on Friday next week. The inspection comes hot on the heels of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s concerted drive to rid Central Kenya and the country at large from the prevalent alcohol and drug abuse menace in the region.
