In a display of community collaboration and generosity, the Chief Officer of Health Services at the Thika Level 5 hospital, Dr. Patrick Nyaga, joined the Jain Youth League, the County Health Management Team, Facility Board Members and Thika Level 5 Management Team for an inauguration ceremony, at the newly renovated Eye Unit at the facility.

The event which marked a significant milestone in enhancing local healthcare facilities, was made possible by The Jain Youth League's substantial contribution of Sh10 million earlier in the year, that was geared towards the expansion and renovation of the Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) clinic.

Speaking during the ceremony, Tuesday, Dr Nyaga said the project not only showcased the league’s commitment to public health, but also exemplified the power of collective action for a noble cause.

“Thika Level 5 Hospital have a large number of patients visiting our ENT clinic from the surrounding areas, as well as the adjacent counties of Muranga, Machakos and Kitui. The generous donation from the league allowed us to expand and make the necessary refurbishments that the clinic urgently needed,” he said.

The facility has also benefited from assorted equipment i.e., operating microscopes, slit lamps, moteralized tables, fundus camera and an auto lensometer.

“We are currently attending to over 100 ENT patients per-day and out of these, around 25 will require surgical procedures that were a challenge before, as the decade old facilities were dilapidated and required expansion plus State-of-the-Art equipment for effective delivery of services were unavailable, an issue that has since been rectified. We therefore expect to receive and treat more patients in the future,” said Nyaga.

Milan Malden, Chairman of Jain Youth League, said their Organisation will continue partnering with the hospital for the well-being of the residents.

“This cooperative endeavor serves as a beacon of hope for fostering stronger ties between healthcare institutions and civic organizations, ultimately fostering a healthier and more vibrant community. We are cognisant of the fact that the donations made, will go a long way in enhancing the lives of the residents as they receive continued access to improved ENT services in the hospital. We, therefore, pledge to continue our partnership with the facility in the future,” Said Malden.
