Man jailed for 12 months for destroying step brother's wife's property

A man was yesterday sentenced to 12 months imprisonment by a Makueni court for damaging Rhodes grass valued at Sh144,000 belonging to his step brother's wife.

Peter Kilei appeared before Chief Magistrate Mr. Peter Gesora where he was found guilty of willingly and unlawfully damaging four acres of Rhodes grass belonging to Florence Muinde on November 7 last year in Kinyongo village, Kaumoni sub- location, Makueni subcounty.

The accused had told the court that the ancestral land was given to him by his father in 2001 when the land was subdivided among the family members.

However, he did not produce any official document in court to prove the ownership of the parcel. According to court records, the complainant has a title deed to the disputed land.

Kilei was sentenced to serve the 12-month jail term or pay a fine of Sh51,000.
