Monica Juma warns of consequences if Sudan war is not stopped

President William Ruto's advisor on security issues has warned of dire consequences if the war in Sudan is not stopped.

Juma warns that the war risks escalating, in the end causing instability in the entire region.

“This is not just a Sudan problem, it is not just a regional problem, it impacts a huge tract of Africa within the Sahel," Juma is quoted by American publication, The National.

War broke out in Sudan in April, 2023, as a result of a clash between the country's paramilitary unit, Rapid Support Forces (RSF) led by General Mohamed Dagalo and the country's military under the command of General Abdel Al-Fattah.

The fighting started in the Capital, Khartoum, before spilling over to other areas such as Darfur.

“With its eruption in Darfur and the tensions we are seeing in other regions, including fighting in North Kordofan, in other areas such as Blue Nile, there is a real risk of fragmentation of Sudan,” says Juma.

President Ruto has been among World leaders to have called for ceasefire in Sudan.

However, General Al-Fattah has accused him of allegedly supporting General Dagalo.

The Kenyan government insists it has no hand in the Sudan war.
