Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has pledged to remain vigilant in the fight against alcohol and substance abuse in the County.
Kahiga said through concerted efforts with the National Government, particularly the initiatives from the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, the county is working aggressively towards curbing the vices that are rendering the youth hopeless.
Speaking yesterday when he conducted a spot check on the state-of-the-art rehabilitation centre at Ihururu in Tetu sub-county, Kahiga said the centre will provide a safe and welcoming environment for individuals struggling with addiction, mental health and other related issues.
“So far about 85 percent of the works are done. We are expediting the process of staffing, finishing kitchen works, provision of reliable water supply and equipping the dining hall, after which the centre will be ready for operationalization. It has a capacity of 70 persons,” said Kahiga
Kahiga said the facility will bring immense benefits to the community and the success of the program will have significant positive impact on both individuals and communities, including reducing crime rates, improving public safety, promotion of social cohesion, restoring dignity and inclusion hence an empowered community.
