As students across the country settle back into their classrooms for the second term, many are facing a myriad of problems making their return to school a mirage.

Eliud Kiprotich, a parent, outlined the challenges facing students including the high cost of education and inadequate learning resources thus calling on the government to come in and address the problems.

Monica Too, a student at Anin Girls high school, expressed her concerns over increased cost of living in the country, saying that it has significantly affected her back-to-school shopping.

Prices of basic commodities such as food, stationery, and clothing have gone up, which has reduced my ability to purchase what I need for school,” she said.

The parents also expressed fear due to several road accidents witnessed in past months while students travel back to school. They urged the government to ensure the security of students during their travels to and from school by improving the conditions of the poorly maintained roads.

They also urged the government to ensure the provision of adequate learning resources in the learning institutions to ensure a peaceful learning environment.

On his part, Peter Omondi, boda-boda operator in Eldoret town, urged school boards of management to take precautionary measures to prevent incidents, such as food poisoning and others that tend to disrupt learning in schools.
