Parents across the country have been urged to support and nurture talents in their children instead of leaving it to teachers.

Speaking to the press in Busia on Monday the Director of Kenya Academy of Sports Doreen Odhiambo said that talents can be a source of job creation and economic income.

"We are also asking parents to support talents in their children," she said, adding that they should not delegate this role to teachers and other stakeholders.

Odhiambo disclosed that the organization had identified scouts to help in identifying children with talents during this year’s second term sports tournaments.

“We have gathered to come up with a plan to identify scouts in each sporting activity across the country," she said, adding that the exercise will be carried out in a fair and transparent way.

The Director further disclosed that the organization will gather together 2,000 youth with talents in various sporting activities during the August holidays adding that the groups have been selected by scouts during various sports tournaments.

‘During the August holidays, some of the talented youth will go to Kasarani and other identified schools to be trained by different coaches within the two weeks,’ she said.

Odhiambo also said that the Academy is working closely with the Ministry of Education by identifying 50 schools countrywide with each school having a sports specialty where identified youth with talents will be trained during April, August and December holidays.
