A police Officer attached to the Rapogi Police Post in Uriri Sub County-Migori has been jailed for 15 years for defiling a school-going minor.
Migori High Court Resident Magistrate Angela Munyuny sentenced the officer for defiling the girl, aged 16 after he was found guilty of the offence.
The court heard that between March 1 and April 30, 2021, at Rapogi Police Post, the girl aged 16 years was defiled by the Officer, Howard Omwoha, aged 38, when she came to babysit his child.
The court heard that the police officer who was based at the Rapogi Police Post in Uriri Sub County at the time, intentionally and unlawfully forced his way onto the minor, 16 years, at the time, who became pregnant as a result of the inhuman act.
The officer is said to have asked the minor for sex before grabbing her hand and defiling her. Omwoha then threatened the teenager not to report the matter.
The accused person committed the offence while he was working at the gender desk knowing very well that his action was against the law.
He was also found guilty of an alternative charge of committing an indecent act with a child contrary to section 11 of the Sexual Offenses Act of 2006.
Omwoha prayed for leniency saying he had three children and two wives while being handed the 15-year jail term.
He has, however, 14 days to appeal the sentence in accordance with the law.
