Residents of Elgeyo Marakwet have been urged to register their groups with the Micro Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA) for them to access the 50 billion hustler fund.
Alton Kogo from the authority said many groups in the county are yet to register with them saying so far only three groups have registered.
He continued that all the members of the group must have repaid their personal hustler loans for them to qualify for the group loan which ranges from sh.20,000 to sh.1 million.
Speaking while addressing traders from Iten market, Kogo regretted that some people have defaulted in the repayment of their individual loans in the mistaken notion that the funds were free money.
“Whenever you borrow it is advisable that you repay for you or your group to increase your limit so that you can access more funds to invest in your businesses,” he said.
He regretted the poor borrowing culture in the county saying it does not feature anywhere among the top 20 counties which he said may adversely affect their businesses.
The Keiyo North MP Adams Kipsanai said the national government will construct a modern market in Iten to provide an enabling environment for traders to work and earn money.
