Saba Saba: Lawyer Abdullahi tells Raila 'to grow up'

By Peter Ochieng

Azimio La Umoja One Kenya leader, Raila Odinga is expected to lead Saba Saba rally at the Kamkunji grounds in Nairobi.

Other leaders in the political formation, among them Martha Karua and Kalonzo Musyoka will lead rallies in various parts of the country, against what they term as president William Ruto's 'overtaxing regime.'

Even as Odinga plans for the day, lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi wants him to 'grow up.'

The ODM party boss is 78-year-old.

Abdullahi says it is time for him to outgrow his run-ins with the government of the day, through demos.

"Hon Raila, even at 78 years, needs to grow up! He can't inhale teargas year after year, clash with policemen who are the grandchildren of officers he had run-ins in the 1980s & continue following the same failed/discredited political script/manual," wrote the vocal lawyer in a tweet.

Odinga previously led demonstrations against former presidents Daniel Arap Moi, Mwai Kibaki, Uhuru Kenyatta, and now against president William Ruto's administration.

Through the protests, he got a spot in Moi and Kibaki's governments, before landing Kenyatta's support in the 2022 presidential race, courtesy of the 2018 handshake.

However, Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua maintain that they will not be hoodwinked into a coalition government through the protests.

Saba Saba is a traditional protest date in line with commemoration of the protests held across the country on 7th July, 1991 to demand for the opening up of the democratic space.
