Several churches across Embu County are counting losses after armed thugs broke in on Tuesday night and stole assorted electronic equipment worth close to a million shillings.
In what seems like a well-choreographed move, the thugs simultaneously struck their targets between 1 and 2 am and stole items including power amplifiers, sound mixers, microphone, keyboards and guitars.
At Christian Revelation Temple in Gakwegori area on the outskirts of Embu Town, the watchman suffered head and arm injuries when he was knocked unconscious by the gang during the 1.30 am attack.
The church head, Apostle Gideon Kariuki said they lost equipment worth Sh350, 000 even as he called on security agencies to track down and apprehend the thugs.
At the same time, another gang struck at Full Gospel Churches of Kenya less than a kilometer away and made away with electronic items valued at Sh150, 000.
“They among other items, stole two power amplifiers and sound mixers as well as microphone receivers,” the church leader Bishop Simon Mukuna said.
He also said he had received reports that several of their churches across the county had been struck including one in Kiriari Location.
“We are saddened by this wave of crime that has hit churches and we call on security organs to act swiftly to restore order,” he said.
Bishop Harrison King’ang’i of Christian Foundation Fellowship condemned the act, saying stealing from the church was tantamount to stealing from God.
“Breaking into church and stealing will only attract a curse upon yourself from God as well as your family,” Bishop King’ang’i warned.
Police have launched investigations into the matter.
