A 25-year-old man and his suspected lady friend, 26, were today found dead under two unclear circumstances around 1km apart within Chebon Location in Pokot South Sub County of West Pokot County.
Confirming the twin incidents, West Pokot County Police Commander Peter Kattam said the male adult who was identified as Francis Masinde, is believed to have been the boyfriend of the deceased female Sheila Cherop aged 26 years.
Kattam said that according to Cherop’s sister’s account, the two deceased persons were together on Monday night and at around 1.00 am, Masinde attempted to rape the girlfriend who raised alarm prompting him to flee only for his body to be found in the morning hanging on a roof.
“According to Cherop’s younger sister, the deceased persons were together at night. At around 1.00am, the male deceased went to where her sister was sleeping and attempted to rape her. She called for help and the man fled,” stated the County Police Commander.
Kattam noted that when the scenes were visited, it was discovered that Cherop had suffered a twisted neck injury suspecting it to be a case of murder through strangulation by the mentioned man who later seems to have committed suicide through hanging himself.
The County Police Boss said security teams were dispatched to the two separate scenes and investigations launched with the bodies of the two victims being taken to Kapenguria County Referral Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.
According to area Chief Francis Meriongor, he got a report from members of the public about a body of a man hanging from the roof of a building at Kapchesich area about 8km South of Tapach Police Station.
As the Chief was on his way to visit the scene, he bumped into another body of a female adult by the road side near Sina Trading Centre about 7Km South of the station.
