Uasin Gishu county Chief Fire Officer, Wanyama Sitati has urged residents to exercise caution near water points or flooded areas especially now that the region is experiencing heavy rains that have increased volumes of water in rivers.
The fire office also asked the community to discourage children and young adults from playing in places with floodwater to avoid the risk of drowning.
The chief firefighter said last week alone they had retrieved three bodies of individuals who perished in water in different areas of the county.
The latest incident was the retrial of a body on Friday of an unknown male aged between 20-30 years from River Sosiani at Teldet village, Kapsaos Ward in Turbo Sub County with Sitati saying no documents were found to identify the deceased.
Teldet village elder, Joash Masinde, said the deceased was not from his area and might have been swept by floodwater from elsewhere.
Another body of a grade three pupil who also drowned was retrieved in an abandoned borrow pit at Uasin Gishu farm in Cheptiret Kipchamo Ward, Kesses Sub County.
Residents alleged that the deceased slipped and drowned in the water while trying to recover a shoe that had dropped into the water.
Last Thursday, the firefighting team recovered another body from a dam in Sugoi, Tapsagoi ward, in Turbo Sub County.
The bodies retrieved by the County Fire Department crew were handed over to the police who transferred them to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary to await post-mortem.
