Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has warned contractors who breach their terms of agreement that they risk being blacklisted in the county.
He said contractors who failed to deliver their tasks after signing contract to use public resources on government projects within a stipulated timeframe may no longer be offered similar deals.
The Governor was speaking at the Machakos Bus park, during the Inspection tour of Machakos Bus Park Renovation and the ongoing re-carpeting of Miwani road in Machakos, she said that contracts should be completed as scheduled because public funds are taxpayer’s money.
“We will not hesitate to black list any contractor that in any way breaches the terms of contract because contracts should be completed as scheduled and the quality of the assigned works will not be negotiable,” insisted Wavinya.
Wavinya urged the contractors to complete their given projects and ensure the citizens get value for their money because public funds are sweat from the taxpayers and must be deployed fully to address the earmarked projects.
She also assured the contractors that they will receive their full pay after completion of the said projects since the funds are ready to be dispatched.
The Governor hailed the completion of the re-carpeting of the Machakos Bus park which was in a deplorable state in the last 15 years and appealed to Machakos residents to intensify their economic activities and create more wealth.
She added that immediately after assuming office she found a number of roads in the county in bad conditions and that is why within her first 100 days in office she initiated the Rapid Response Initiative (RRI) where they graded 1,325 km of roads across the county.
She noted that among the milestones that her Government has achieved in their road rehabilitation and expansion plan in the county, are the gravelling of 150 km of roads in Ekalakala market, Kisiki, Syokimau market, Katangi, muthwani, kyeleni and Matuu.
Wavinya pointed out that currently there are 56 active contracts of ongoing road works across the country where grading, gravelling, installation of drifts culverts, gabions and pothole patching is on course.
The Governor further added that roads infrastructure remains a critical element of development in Machakos because good roads provide efficient transport and easy movement of goods and people leading to better economic growth.
“The roads that I have inspected today are critical in our development plan especially in the construction of our new Machakos city where a huge number of local and international investors have interest in setting up operation,” added Wavinya.
She encouraged Machakos residents to take advantage of the ongoing county projects to create employment opportunities for themselves and also expand and grow their enterprises to eradicate poverty in Machakos.
The Governor reminded the residents of the promise she made during campaigns, that she will continue opening up the entire county through an improved road network in order to spur Socio economic development among the residents which is in line with her manifesto and Kenya’s vision 2030 blue print.
