Women have been urged to embrace income generating activities as opportunities to have income and support their families.
Nakuru County gender and social services, Chief Officer, Gladys Kamuren said that such activities will enable women improve on their livelihoods and spur economic growth as well.
Ms. Kamuren was addressing over 300 women at Kapkembo Village, Tinet Ward, in Kuresoi South Sub-county where they were being taken through a session of making liquid soap.
"This is no small venture as through this you are able to meet your day today needs and create employment for others as you expand your business," noted Kamuren.
She encouraged the women to learn from each other on other available opportunities and sought for information from the relevant County and national government offices to have the appropriate resources for establishment of their ventures.
"Women play a critical in the society and if they are economically empowered, our future is secured," observed Kamuren.
She further said that the economic empowerment skills learnt will be passed to other generations. “This will help strengthen the moral fabric as most people will be engaged and not have time to get involved in societal ills,” she added.
The training session was conducted courtesy of a collaboration between the Directorate of Gender and Social Services and Ajira Digital Program.
