A total of 140 National Police Reservists (NPR) passed out Wednesday after completing five weeks of specialized training in Lokichoggio.

The newly trained officers comprised of 50 from Turkana South, 40 (Loima) and 50 from Nadapal in Turkana West.

Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai said he was impressed with the quality of training received by the NPRs and expressed confidence that the reservists were well-equipped to contribute to security objectives in the county.

He said, "I want to thank President Dr. William Ruto and Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Prof. Kithure Kindiki for keeping their word and deployment a good number of NPR across the county where we face numerous security challenges."

During the pass-out ceremony, the Governor announced that the President had promised to increase the number of NPRs deployed to Turkana West to 100 as promised by CS Kindiki, in order to beef up security along the border with South Sudan.

Governor Lomorukai assured County Police Commandant Samuel Ndanyi of his support for security agencies in their campaign to eradicate banditry within the county and along international borders.

County Commissioner Jacob Ouma promised to continue working with all elected Turkana leaders and with the Governor to provide services to residents and address insecurity.

County Police Commandant Samuel Ndanyi said the NPRs will be deployed to their area of residence and were ready to secure people and their property.

He added that the officers had been trained to work with all other security agencies where they will be deployed.

The Governor was accompanied by County Executive for Infrastructure, Transport, and Public Works Patrick Losike, Lokichoggio MCA Vincent Ekipor, Turkana West Deputy Sub County Administrator Zachariah Etukon and Lokichoggio Ward Admin Echip Obed.
