A police officer based in Matete Sub County is under investigations for allegedly attempting to steal a bullock at Matete area in Kakamega County.
The cop, according to a police report filed at Matete Police Station was nabbed at the wee hours of Wednesday at the homestead of Benard Luvale Luchelele.
The report says the complainant heard a commotion in his cowshed located next to his house and as he walked out he found a person stealing his calf.
It further indicates that the complainant raised alarm and members of the public who came to assist caught the officer and tied him up together with the calf valued at
Sh.15, 000.
He was however rescued from the irate members of the public by fellow police officers who arrested and booked him at Matete police station.
Confirming the incident, Matete Deputy County Commissioner Philip Sigei said the matter is under probe.
He said, “The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has taken up the matter and preliminary investigations indicate the officer was drunk and might have missed his way and found himself in the homestead. May be there were thieves in the homestead at that particular time and they ran away."
The DCIO said once investigations are complete and the officer is found culpable he will be arraigned in court.
We don’t want to make conclusions before investigations are completed, added Sigei.
