Construction of Sh343 Chwele market launched

The construction of Chwele Strategic Market in Bungoma County has been launched.
The Tuesday launch was presided over by Bungoma governor Kenneth Lusaka and his deputy, Jenipher Mbatiany among other political leaders.
Upon completion, the market will provide a modern trading hub for over 1,000 local traders, with leaders touting it as a significant milestone in the county's economic development agenda.
The one -storey county strategic market facility will feature modern stalls, cold rooms, revenue offices, conference room, mother's room, Information and Communication and Technology (ICT) hub, washing area, offloading and loading zones among a host of others.
Addressing traders and locals, governor Lusaka emphasised the project's role in driving economy and positioning Chwele as a regional economic powerhouse.
“This project will transform Chwele into a regional economic hub, attracting investors and spurring development in Bungoma County,” he stated.
The infrastructural project, the governor added, is expected to be completed in 18 months and will enhance service delivery, boost local commerce, and support community livelihoods. Kabuchai Member of Parliament (MP) Majimbo Kalasinga said the project is expected to spur economic development in the area.
"This marks a significant step towards enhancing local infrastructure and economic development in the region."
Meanwhile, Lusaka has announced provision of free medical services for persons living with disabilities (PLWDs) in all public health facilities across the county.
The announcement was made during the International Day of Persons with Disabilities commemoration held at Uwanja Ndege Grounds in Kanduyi, graced by the Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Dr. Alfred Mutua.
The County boss donated 100 wheelchairs to beneficiaries across the county and game kits to teams that represented Bungoma in the recent Paralympic Games.
“Our commitment to empowering persons with disabilities remains unwavering. By next week, the disability policy, which is at its final stage, will be assented into law to ensure the disability agenda is fully mainstreamed,” he stated.
