KCSE 2024 released, how to check results

By Peter Ochieng

The 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination (KCSE) results are out.

The results were announced by Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Julius Ogamba Migos on Thursday, the first assignment of such magnitude for him since replacing Ezekiel Machogu in September 2024.

Out of 962, 512 candidates who sat for KCSE exams administered in November, 480, 310 were male while 482, 202 were female, making it the first-time female candidates were more than male candidates, since the inception of KCSE exams over 30 years ago.

Ogamba revealed that 1,693 candidates got grade A plain in the exams, compared to 1,216 in 2023. 246, 391 got grade C plain, 476, 889 managed a C minus while 605, 774 got D plus in the released exams.

“A total of 246, 391 candidates got direct university entry qualification of C+ and above,” added the CS.

He said starting this year, the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) will introduce a mid-year KCSE exam series to be administered every July.

“I wish to announce that KNEC will introduce a mid-year series of the KCSE examination to be administered in July every year. The examination will target candidates wishing to repeat the KCSE exam and those who may have missed sitting due to sickness or unexpected hardships,” he said.

Every year, several registered candidates fail to sit for KCSE exams due to various challenges among them hospitalization or being away from examination centres in insecurity-prone areas such as Baringo, Turkana, West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet counties.

The results, the CS announced, will be accessed directly through https://results.knec.ac.ke.

Candidates will be required to enter their index number and any one of the names as per the registration data for the 2024 exam results. There is no provision of getting results via an SMS platform, as was previously the case.

Those with difficulties accessing their results were directed to call KNEC through the following toll-free numbers: 0800724900, 0800721410. 840 candidates accused of engaging in malpractices during the exams had their results cancelled.

Meanwhile, KNEC Chief Executive Officer David Njengere informed Kenyans that the Council will start registering Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) candidates on January 27, 2025.

On the other hand, registration of KCSE and Kenya Junior School Education Assessment candidates will commence on February 17, 2025.
