By Robert Mutasi
President William Ruto has urged Starlink, a satellite company owned by billionaire Elon Musk, to devise ways in which internet services can be made available at a lower cost in the country.
He said this during his visit to the SpaceX factory, the company that operates Starlink, in Los Angeles, USA.
The president acknowledged Starlink's significant capability in providing quality internet services worldwide and enhancing the digital economy.
"Their investment has the potential to significantly enhance high-speed connectivity in remote villages, schools, and various institutions in the country, thus unlocking the full potential of our digital economy," he wrote on X, which used to be Twitter.
Ruto traveled to the United States on September 13, where he is expected to hold a series of meetings.
So far, he has visited Silicon Valley in San Francisco, where he met with Apple CEO Tim Cook, Pat Gelsinger of Intel, CFO Ruth Porat, and executives from Nike, GAP, and Levi Strauss.
He also met with Invention Studios President Nicholas Weinstock and explored the possibility of American filmmakers in Kenya to create job opportunities and contribute to the growth of our film industry.
In addition, he held talks with Grammy Global Venture CEO Harvey Mason Jr. and President Panos Panay to advocate for the Grammy College Headquarters to be established in Nairobi.
The Head of State is now expected to attend the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
