A man has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for robbery with violence.

John Muriithi appeared before Loitoktok Principal Magistrate Judicaster Nthuku charged that on July 27, last year, with others not in court while armed with sisal ropes and an unknown drink, they robbed Daniel Kiriethi a lorry valued at Sh 3 million.

Muriithi was co charged with Joseph Kungu who absconded during the proceedings of the trial after being released on bail.

Kiriethi who was employed by David Muiruri as a driver had told the court how on the material day, he was informed by his employer of a job of ferrying blocks from Olkalou to Imbirikani in Kajiado.

After loading the blocks with Kungu in company of two other men, Kiriethi proceeded to Imbirikani, but one of them alighted at Gilgil. They arrived at Imbirikani at around midnight and had to spend the night there.

The following day, the driver was directed to a bushy area for offloading and while there two men arrived and he was attacked and drugged and tied to a tree and the lorry taken.

Luckily, though drowsy he was able to untie himself and alerted a brother of his boss, Joseph Mwaura who alerted police officers at Loitoktok police station of a stolen vehicle.

The vehicle was intercepted as it headed to Loitoktok and the two accused were arrested and escorted to police station. They were positively identified by the complainant at Loitoktok police station.

The accused denied having being involved in the crime. The charge against Kungu was withdrawn, but a warrant of arrest remains in force.

In his defense, the accused said he was framed for no reason by the complainant.

However, the court found the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt hence the sentence. He has 14 days to appeal against the sentence.
