35 students benefit from a full university scholarship

A total of 35 students will benefit from a Sh.7 million university scholarship, courtesy of the Keiyo North National Government Constituency Development Fund.

The area MP Adams Kipsanai said the students were carefully selected from each of the 4 wards in the county to study various professional courses which include engineering, medicine, pharmacy, and law among others.

The legislator said he decided to take the deliberate step of sponsoring students in the professional courses after realizing that there was a shortage of the said professions from the sub-county and the county at large.

Speaking during the launch of the Keiyo North University Bursary scholarship at the Iten sports ground, the MP said the professionals were being trained not only to work in the county but also to compete with others countrywide in serving the nation.

“In taking this step, we are securing the future of our children by ensuring that they will also effectively compete with others in heading national institutions,” he said.

He said the sub-county had also identified professionals in the various fields who will walk with the students and mentor them in their journey through campus.

The MP therefore called on the students to study hard and remember that the scholarship was from funds which would have gone to other projects but the residents had decided to sacrifice the projects for their sake.

“Don’t squander this opportunity, Sh7 million is not pocket change, these are funds that would have been used to fund community projects but the people of Keiyo North decided to forgo the projects for you,” he said.

Kipsanai said their performance will be closely monitored during their duration on campus including their behavior at home and any drop in performance or unbecoming behaviour will lead to disqualification from the scholarship.

“Each one of you will today sign an agreement with the NG-CDF committee committing yourself to the conditions you are supposed to meet key among them good performance. You will be required to bring your results to the NG-CDF office at the end of every semester,” he said.

Moiben MP Prof. Phillis Bartoo advised the students to manage their freedom while on campus saying there were a lot of vices including drug abuse, which has led to the destruction of many young people’s lives.

The guest speaker Bishop Emeritus Jackson Kosgey called on the students not to rush into relationships in college, which will derail their education saying there is time for everything.
