Accident claims four lives in Kajiado

Four people died and seven others were left nursing serious injuries Friday evening after a vehicle they were traveling in was involved in an accident along the Nairobi -Namanga highway.

The accident occurred near UMMA University in Kajiado at around 8:00pm, when the driver of the 14 seater matatu lost control of the vehicle following a tyre burst.

According to eye-witnesses, the matatu which was heading to Kitengela town from Il bissil veered off the road when one of its back tyres burst.

Two people died on the spot while two more succumbed to their injuries at the Kajiado County Referral Hospital where they had been rushed to for treatment.

Seven other people who sustained serious injuries were admitted at the referral hospital.

According to the hospital's Medical Superintendent Fred Ayani, two patients were transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital for specialized treatment.

The bodies of the deceased were moved to the mortuary at the same hospital awaiting a postmortem examination.
