More than 300 Administration Police officers have planted over 1000 seedlings in Embu as part of their contribution towards the campaign to plant 1.5 billion trees around the country.
Assistant Inspector General of Police (AP) Gitiba Mwita, who is the commandant of the VIP Protection Unit of the Kenya Police Service led the officers Wednesday, during the exercise at the Kenya agricultural and Livestock Research (KARLO) Embu Centre.
Mwita said the Administration Police work close to communities all over the country and cannot be detached from what is happening to the rest of society.
He instructed the officers to join communities in their activities such as tree planting so as to foster good relations that will make their work easier.
Embu KALRO Director Dr. Alfred Micheni thanked the officers for choosing the centre as the site of their Corporate Social Responsibility activity saying they were open to partnerships in their work.
He added that KARLO works to give Kenyans solution not only in their agricultural and livestock farming, but also in matters of environment, which have a huge impact on food security.
Dr. Micheni added that the organization has included tree planting in its strategic plan and will plant 10000 fruit trees this year.
He said trees will not only support nutrition, but will also clean the air we breathe.
