The county planning committee for Madaraka Day Celebrations in Kisii has completed preparations for this year’s event to be held at Gusii stadium in Kisii town.

Speaking to the press at the venue on Tuesday, Kitutu Central Deputy County Commissioner, Elizabeth Atemi said the function will be graced by top county and national government officials including the area Governor, Simba Arati, and County Commissioner, Tom Anjere.

Atemi noted that political leaders, clergymen as well as businessmen and women have been invited to the occasion and urged the residents to come out in large numbers to celebrate the national day.

The DCC said there will be entertainment from various groups such as the cultural dancers, Talanta Kids, local artists, church choirs, and primary and secondary schools.

In addition, she noted there will be a tug of war and a special Pokot Dance from St. Patrick's Secondary School Mosocho, a performance that was hailed at the national drama festivals held recently.

Atemi pointed out that the gates of the stadium will be opened from 8am and there will be a parade led by the Kisii Prisons and Administration Police officers.

Residents of Kisii Central and Kitutu Central Sub Counties are expected to take part in the event and similar celebrations will be marked in the remaining sub-counties within the county.

The national celebrations of this year’s 60th Madaraka Day celebrations will be held at Moi Stadium in Embu County under the theme of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and will provide an opportunity to spur the economy of the county.
