Man hangs himself after Killing wife

Police in Mathira Sub-county in Nyeri County have launched investigations to establish the circumstances under which a 44-year-old Community health volunteer was murdered by her husband yesterday morning, at Gathugu village in Mathira, Nyeri County.

Confirming the incident, Mathira East Police boss Benjamin Rotich, said 58-year-old Dedan Gachoka killed his wife Judy Wangui by hitting her with a blunt object (hammer) on the head and later committed suicide by hanging himself of the rooftop of their wooden house. 

Rotich said they are yet to establish the cause of the incident which brought business at the village to a temporary halt.

According to the villagers they said they discovered something was amiss in the compound when they noticed the body of Gachoka dangling on the outer rooftop of his house.

They said that they broke his first gate but were unable to access his house, but they called police officers from Karatina Police Station who arrived and forced the door open only to find the body of Wangui lying lifeless in the bedroom.

The children of the couple were at school during the incident.

The two bodies were moved to Karatina Sub-county Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
