Athlete Sammy Kosgei killed in hit and run incident

Members of the athletics fraternity in the country are mourning the death of one of their own.

Sammy Kosgei, a native of Kapsabet in Nandi County succumbed on Friday evening, after being hit by a speeding public service vehicle, along the Lessos-Kapsabet road.

He was hit in a 'hit and run' incident' while walking along the road.

Nandi County Police Commander Joseph Kavoo said he died on the spot.

"It is sad that we lost a young athlete who has been running internationally and his future was bright," said retired athlete Hosea Saina.

Saina is Kosgei family's spokesperson.

"Death has robbed us a humble and hardworking athlete who was destined to the top," added Saina.

Police have launched investigations into the incident.
