Civic activity and lawyer Morara Kebaso has called out Kenyans for complaining about bad governance while engaging in or tolerating corrupt practices in their own lives.
In a long tweet at his X platform on Friday, He criticized citizens for their inaction and hypocrisy where People complain about corruption and bad leadership on social media but do not participate actively in civic duties or politics to change the system. They mock those who attempt to make a change.
"Citizens who only complain on social media but never get to the ground to do the much needed civic education. Citizens who complain about bad governance but are not willing to form political parties and take that governance from the corrupt individuals. They mock those who try. “Huendi mahali” they say. “Jaribu MCA” they add."He tweeted.
Morara shared his own experience of being called a 'project' or a 'con' by detractors, but he used this criticism as motivation to continue his efforts.
"Citizens who incite others to go for demonstrations but they themselves never show up. Citizens who despise emerging leaders by calling them projects and all manner of names but they themselves are not willing to emerge and do better than those who are trying. Citizens who in their private businesses or in their places of work, are already corrupt and given public office they would steal at an advanced speed."He added.
Morara highlighted Various professions for their corrupt practices.
" Employees stealing from their employers but condemning corruption on X. Entrepreneurs selling fake products as originals conning their clients. Civil engineers & contractors who build substandard roads and buildings to steal money. Lawyers who facilitate corruption. Accountants who hide corruption by cooking figures.
Women who are cheating on their husbands with gym instructors but condemning Ruto as a liar. Women and men who have slept their way into promotions at work but are complaining about incompetent state appointments.
Mechanics who steal catalytic converters from the client’s vehicle.
Insurance workers who gave partnered with garages to steal from the insurance company. Hotel waiters and kitchen staff who sell you a full chicken that has one leg, one wing and half of its back is missing. Milk vendors who add water to milk to increase quantity. Furniture makers who lie to clients that this is mahogany wood when in actual sense its gravellia or bluegum that has been painted with mahogany stain and vanish. Saloonists who whisper into the clients ear “next time usikuje hapa kushukwa, nunua braids za Abuja nikuje nikushuke kwa nyumba”Morara added in his tweet.
This comes as the activist recently announced that he will take a small break from his 'watchdog' role.
Morara has gained popularity following his exposes on failed government projects across various parts in the country. Kenyans have contributed financial donations to his work to enable him tour different areas and expose stalled projects.
However recently, a section of Kenyans online have accused him of being a 'government project' and a 'scammer'.
Others have called him out for complicating his main objective and dividing too deep into politics.
"Lakini Morara, we also need to be serious brother. Why don't you just make this simple? When you started, you were doing very well, exposing ghost and corrupt projects, when did you start being complicated? Too much complications distort the original course. Just be simple bro." a username on X called Tribeles responded to his tweet.
The activist recently launched the INJECT party which he says will field political positions across all seats in the next general elections to bring in a new face of leadership.
Morara launched the party just days after being physically assaulted by goons during the Public participation event for the collection of views in the Impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at Bomas of Kenya.
He fortunately fleed to safety and was hospitalized only to resurface a few days later where he issued a press statement in the company of his relatives and condemned the attacks on him. Well wishers came out in large numbers to donate for his personal security infrastructure.
In today's tweet, Morara questioned where Kenyans expect to get good governance while themselves are tribal, corrupt and insensitive.
He called out 'fake supporters' whom he accused of being jealous of his confidence to stand against the government.
Morara Thanked his well wishers but urged Kenyans to rise up against bad leadership, practice ethical vices and support emerging leaders who have boldly stood up to face the government.
He Called for Self-Reflection where he urged individuals to examine their own behaviors and contributions to societal issues, suggesting that good governance starts with good citizenship.
His message was also a call to action for citizens to embody the values they wish to see in their leaders, emphasizing that societal change begins with personal integrity and responsibility.
"My message to you is simple, look at yourself and how you live your life and earn your living. Are you a citizen that deserves good leadership or are you part of the problem?Let us create a society of values" He tweeted.
His post essentially argues that bad leaders are a reflection of the society they come from, urging a collective introspection and improvement in personal ethics to foster better governance.
