A middle aged woman was on Thursday July 27 arrested for allegedly killing and burying the remains of her three day-old baby in unknown circumstances.

While confirming the incident, Sacho OCS Jeremiah Miningwo told KNA on phone that the suspect, Dorcas Chebet, committed infanticide at her home Timboiywo village, Baringo Central Sub-County within Baringo County on the said date and buried the body in her parents’ backyard to conceal evidence.

"I received the report of the incident from my assistant chief prompting me to rush to the homestead. Then I called the Kabarnet police station officers who came and processed the scene and transferred the body to the Baringo County Referral Hospital BCRH," Miningwo said.

He noted that Chebet had delivered safely at Kiptagich Health Center on Sunday July 23 this year and discharged the following day with the bouncing baby boy but there was no indication of any problems.

The OCS regretted the heinous act urging women to speak up on what they could be going through, especially during postpartum to avoid such incidences in the future as they were still in shock.

"A day after being discharged, she strangled the infant to death using her hands and later on buried him in a shallow grave in the backyard," he said.

Once police arrived, Chebet led them to the backyard where she buried the lifeless body of the infant and she was then arrested at their home where she has been living with her parents.

The officers exhumed the body which had physical injuries on the neck and moved the body to the BCRH morgue pending investigations.
