Some 2460 Community Health Promoters were yesterday dispatched to 2460 health units in Bomet County to boost primary healthcare.
The members of the volunteering team were issued with tool kits comprising a backpack containing first aid kit, infrared thermometer and a weighing scale among other basic health equipment.
While addressing the team at the County headquarters Tuesday, Bomet Governor Prof Hillary Barchok said the Ministry of Health and the local County Government were responsible for motivating the volunteers saying they were matching the stipend on shilling to shilling basis.
Barchok noted the achievement was made possible through collaboration with partners such as Africa Medical Research Foundation AMREF saying the institution's contribution has had positive impacts on prevention of disease through immunization and sensitization on nutrition.
He asked the people of Bomet to cooperate with the CHPs by giving them information deemed important to enable the programme achieve its targets as far as universal health was concerned.
While appreciating AMREF Director Ndirangu Wanjiku after signing a memorandum of understanding to the effect the County Government of Bomet and Amref partnered in promotion of primary healthcare, Barchok urged other parents to come on board and join Tenwek hospital and Longisa Medical Training College KMTC who have shown commitment.
