Busia County Government has allocated sh. 250 million toward the development of the Nasewa Integrated Agro-Processing Industrial Park and Export Processing Zone in the county.

Speaking in his office Busia deputy governor Arthur Odera noted that the county government of Busia was in full support to partner with the national government to give the county a face-lift in the economic hemisphere.

The allocation comes days after the Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry Moses Kuria had revealed that the Cabinet has approved KES 3 billion for the Nasewa Project in the budget for the Financial Year 2023/2024.

"Our key objective is to make sure that we create an industrial park in Busia that works with the economy of the people of Busia to improve the economic livelihoods of the people," said the DG assuring that anything they will be doing will be geared towards taking advantage of the opportunity that has been presented.

The 3.25 billion project will be developed on 843 acres of land in Matayos South and it will herald a new dawn in terms of job creation and economic empowerment of county residents with keen interest in value addition for food products which the county has comparative advantage.

The Kenya Kwanza manifesto of One County One Product advocacy saw Busia identified to produce edible oil and cotton to help save the country millions incurred through importation.

“The president in his economic discourse with locals identified Busia as a county that has great potential in producing edible oils. We will support the government to give Busia an economic rebirth,” noted DG Odera.

Odera added that Busia will give more significance to edible oils like; simsim, groundnuts, and sunflower.

The park will also support cotton farming and mining at Alupe and Bumutiru among other mandates.

In recent days, the government has shown commitment in supporting industrialization in Busia County. This ranges from revival of cotton ginnery at Mulwanda, Nasewa industrial park and change of infrastructure within the town.
