Contractors who undertook the construction of Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) classes in Embu will start receiving their payments Friday.

County Director of Education Mr. Kipruto Kosgei said the Ministry has already disbursed all the funds to the schools for CBC classrooms construction phase two.

Two weeks ago, Education Cabinet Secretary Mr. Ezekiel Machogu when speaking in Embu at Kangaru School said the government had set aside Sh. 2.5 billion to settle dues owed to about 1, 950 contractors who constructed the classes countrywide.

He also announced that examiners of the 2022 Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) were also to receive their dues amounting to Sh. 2 billion.

Speaking from his office on Thursday, Kosgei said currently the sub-county directors were working with schools’ management to ensure the dues were settled immediately. “We are anticipating that by tomorrow all the contractors in the county will have been paid because no school has not received the funds,” he said.

He said the slight delay was occasioned by a change of payment model where the money was channeled through the schools instead of being paid directly to the contractors from the ministry headquarters.

“The files had to be recalled from the headquarters to the schools thus causing the slight delay,” he said, adding that it was a faster model.
