The residents of Muhoroni sub-county have lamented against the Kisumu County Executive Member (CECM) for Agriculture Kenneth Onyango over allegations that he hired some rowdy youths to block the lorries that were ferrying garbage to Sidho in Muhoroni sub-county.
The youths accused the CECM of bribing the youths who intercepted the lorries that were transporting garbage to Muhororoni sub county.
“I hail from Yawo polling station but we were astonished when the minister for agriculture hired goons giving them sh. 800 each yet Governor Nyo’ngo improved the dumpsite that was initially very soggy but he has dug drainages and reclaimed the wasted land and made it suitable for agriculture, we are therefore wondering why the CEC has betrayed his own boss,” lamented Patrick Ouma Ochola, a resident
The residents however hailed the many development projects that have been implemented by the Ny’ong’o’s regime in the area and the urged the governor to continue rallying more projects to the area.
“we shall not allow outsiders to meddle in the affairs of Ombei ward because even funds for the works on the road from Kasese Onyalo biro Miwani road have been allocated and the bridge in question has been factored in the road’s budget hence we denounce any attacks on the governor,” added Ochola.
The residents further pointed that the garbage that is dumped in the area has been a conduit for many developments projects that have also gone to the area including good roads and even drainages to contain the flooding that was initially a disaster in the area and the garbage has on the other hand been even a source of employment and income for some of the local youths.
When contacted the CECM for agriculture Mr Kenneth Onyango distanced himself saying the issue of garbage are not under his docket saying he cannot comment on the issue and any queries should be directed to the CEC in charge of environment.
