Jubilee nominated Member of Parliamentary; Sabina Chege has told off opposition leaders for their calls to resume demonstrations on Tuesday.
Chege, who is deputy minority whip in the National Assembly, said she was ready to lose the position rather than supporting the planned demonstrations by the Azimio-One Kenya alliance.
Speaking during a home-coming event of Kanyenyaini MCA, Grace Nduta on Saturday Chege said it’s time for Kenyans to work and alleviate the bedeviling challenges facing the country instead of wasting time in demonstrations.
“The position I was given by God and am ready to lose it, because I will not support demonstrations. This country needs peace and development will not be achieved through maandamano,” she stated.
Chege called the leaders to agree and engage in negotiations which will solve some of the problems and hardships faced by Kenyans.
“Leaders should have constructive discussion and come up with various strategies to solve and get solutions on what is ailing the country’s economy,” added the former Murang’a county woman representative.
Her sentiments were echoed by Juja MP George Koimburi who asked opposition leaders to call off planned maandamano and give the bipartisan discussion a chance.
“The country is bigger than the opposition. Let the leaders address their issues through the proposed bipartisan discussion instead of engaging in demonstrations which may lead to destruction of people’s property,” he added.
On his part, Gatundu South MP Gabriel Kagombe urged former president Uhuru Kenyatta to keep off from active politics and engage in matters which will bring peace to war-torn African countries.
“Our former president should avoid tainting his reputation. We ask him to concentrate on matters which will see African countries faced by turmoil embrace peace. The opposition should be firm in oversighting the government but not through demonstrations which have negative impacts on the country’s economy,” he added.
Kandara MP Chege Njuguna stressed that the government is focused on revamp the ailing economy saying they will not sit and watch people’s property be destroyed during the demonstrations.
Meanwhile the leaders said they will not tire in their demand to have a formula of one man one shilling in sharing revenue.
The counties in the central region, they argued, are highly affected by the country method in sharing resources by the national government considering the huge local population.
“One man one shilling will be the way to go in ensuring our people get better services. The resources we get cannot do much in service delivery. Population in our counties is big thus the need for more resources,” said Murang’a woman representative, Betty Maina.
