Isiolo County Commissioner Mr. Geoffrey Omoding has directed chiefs and their assistants to closely work with nyumba kumi elders in a bid to bring cattle rustling and banditry activities to an end.

Addressing Assistant County Commissioners, Chiefs and their assistants, Mr. Omoding said that all communities implicated in cattle theft should return all the stolen animals to the rightful owners.

He added that security officers had recovered 78 camels and already 35 of them have been positively identified by owners and handed over.

Omoding said that chiefs and their assistants represent the government on the ground and they should ensure that those behind livestock theft are exposed and prosecuted according to the law.

The CC said that the Turkana community declaration to deal with criminals and return of stolen animals has opened the new charter and urged Samburu, Somali, Borana and Meru to follow the suit and name chiefs and elders harbouring criminals in their areas of jurisdiction.

He directed chiefs to hand in a list of the names of suspects and their families to security officers so that an appropriate action could be taken against them.

On issuance of identity cards, Mr. Omoding said that only Kenyans are required to get the documents and directed chiefs and registration officers to ensure they conduct thorough scrutiny of the applicants.

The county boss directed the registration officers to speed up issuance of the identity cards to the youth and where possible liaise with the Secondary principals to assist those sitting KCSE and is of age this year to get the documents.

“Priority should be given to students who are now becoming citizens after reaching 18 years in effort to easily register as many residents as possible,” Mr. Omoding said.
