Church wrangle solved after two decades

KNA by Philip Onyango.
A two-decade old wrangle that saw one of the oldest independent churches in Kenya split into two has finally been resolved after the leaders of the factions reached a truce.
The leadership of the Ruwe Holy Ghost Church of East Africa factions buried the hatchet during a meeting held at the church headquarters in Ruwe, Ugunja sub county.
The 22-year-old division had one faction led by Archbishop Joel Ofuna being operated from Kisumu while another, led by Archbishop Daniel Were Ohola operated from the church headquarters in Ruwe.
According to archbishop Ofuna, the two leaders have agreed to work together after negotiations that took about three years.
Arch-Bishop Ofuna said that following the truce, the leaders agreed on a hybrid system that will see the church operate with two archdioceses, East and West.
He said that they agreed to work under one secretariat through a mutual agreement that will see them work together under the same norms, rules and doctrines.
Chairman of the Secretariat Mr. Isaac Ouma Njiri assured their commitment of maintaining unity, noting that in August this year they shall have another joint prayer meeting in Kisumu that will bring together the two Arch-Dioceses to cement the agreement.
The church Organizing Secretary, Mr. Yusuf Ooro Odongo said church members were delighted that the wrangles had been resolved and challenged other religious organizations facing similar leadership wrangles to emulate the Holy Ghost Church of Eat Africa.
