County Disburses Over Sh83 million in Bursaries

Vihiga county government has disbursed Sh 83, 375, 262 in bursary for learners in secondary and tertiary institutions.
The County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for education Dr. Ruth Agesa has disclosed that each of the 25 wards received Sh3, 335, 010 for allocation to the beneficiaries.
Dr. Agesa stated that she has instructed the ward administrators to fast-track the dispatch of cheques to the bank accounts of the institutions ahead of schools ‘opening next week.
The CECM said they have been assisting learners who are bright, but from poor economic backgrounds to pursue education up to tertiary level.
“The county administration has been offering full scholarships for 100 secondary students, four from each of the 25 wards, for the past four years and the pioneer group sat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) last year,” she explained.
Out of this, she revealed, about a quarter qualified to join universities, while the remainder attained grades that would enable them to take diploma courses in various fields of choice.
The CECM added that they have equipped 31 polytechnics and employed 135 instructors in a bid to boost the residents' accessibility to technical training for self-reliance.
