County Government, UNICEF resolve to enhance child protection services

UNICEF has supported mapping of street children in major towns in Turkana County in a bid to ensure their integration into the society as part of rescue and rehabilitation service.
The Chief Officer for Education and Social Protection, Moses Korea said the County Government and UNICEF resolved to enhance child protection services.
He was speaking after discussions with a UNICEF team that had paid a visit to his office.
Korea said the County government was relying on the national legal frameworks, which was sufficient on matters children services.
Korea proposed further partnerships on child adoption, children's rights Watch and welfare systems.
The team leader of UNICEF delegation Eri Mathers, noted the input of UNICEF and said that the process was universally supported by international laws and charters on child protection.
Mathers added that the County was on the right track towards addressing vulnerability that children may suffer from inhumane treatments, punishment and exploitative labour.
The meeting was also addressed by Mark Amiyo (Director Social Protection), his Deputy, Ignatius Idoka, James Ekanyuku(Assistant Director-Social Protection), Esther Lokai(Assistant Director-Administration) And Alex Marangach(Child Protection Officer-T/Central).
