County legislator calls for concerted efforts to promote education

Meru county majority leader, Evans Mawira has urged fellow politicians to strike a good development rapport with other leaders in their areas of representation to ensure every child was able to access quality education with ease.

Speaking during a media briefing in Meru town, Mr  Mawira said efforts to accord equal opportunities for a better future for learners at various education levels was not a preserve of a particular stakeholder, adding that community development remained a collective task at the docket of all players in the area of concern.

Politicians and technocrats entrusted with the noble task of spinning the county development wheel were no longer in conflict, since they were currently reading from the same script upon embracing a team work spirit in all sectors.

Mawira said the county assembly members were in support of the executive on launching a continuous programme geared towards assisting all needy learners pursue their courses to completion, with an emphasis on those from financially challenged family backgrounds.

The majority leader said Meru County was committed to increasing the number of academically and professionally qualified population, for purposes of enabling the region compete equitably in the job market with other areas in Kenya and beyond.

The Mitunguu Ward MCA said the education promotion program had a component of providing learning materials to all ECDE institutions in the county without any form of discrimination.

During the launch of the education promotion programme, which was presided over by Governor Kawira Mwangaza, cheques worth over Sh17 million were disbursed to learners in South Imenti constituency regardless of the location of the learning institution.

Mawira further divulged that the county government was committed to reaching out to all learners in public and private institutions, adding that no learner was private and they all had the potential of contributing and participation in the implementation of development initiatives to boost the county’s economic growth in future.
