Nyamira County Commissioner Onesmas Kyatha has put all criminals on notice saying they are causing a lot of unnecessary unrest to residents in some parts of the county and warned that business will not continue as usual because their days were numbered.
The County Commissioner made this warning while presiding over Madaraka day Celebrations at Manga stadium in Nyamira County saying they have profiled the most notorious criminals terrorising residents in the county and in a short while they will be nabbed.
“We shall not condone criminal activities where gangs harass residents, assault them and demand that they surrender all their earnings after struggling to make it. This is unacceptable and those we have profiled must desist from those illegal activities or face the full force of the law once arrested,” Kyatha warned.
He named another group of criminals which defile minors and murder them to conceal evidence.
“These criminals have a tendency of compromising witnesses and threatening them so that they fear to testify before the court of law.
Defiled minors hardly get justice because of their vulnerability and these criminals compromise their caregivers so that they refuse to testify, or opt for the illegal Kangaroo courts, or worse they kill the minors. We shall work closely with law enforcers so that they are not released until the affected minors have testified before they are released on bond,” he stated.
Kyatha warned students who have started the bad habit of torching schools saying such students propagating the crimes will be arrested and be taken to court and their parents will bear the burden of paying for the destroyed property.
“In this second term of the school calendar, four schools in our county have been torched with various degrees of damage and this trend must be stopped at once. Students who are reported to be the initiators or accomplices of propagating these criminal activities of arson will not be spared,” he said.
“We shall arrest them, take them before the court of law to be charged and their parents will bear full brunt of compensation for lost and damaged property,” he cautioned.
Kyatha advised school heads to beef up security especially in the dormitory areas and the boarding facilities, have enough exit places in case of any emergency and functioning fire extinguishers, moreover conduct impromptu regular checks to contain such life threatening incidents before they escalate and create a crisis.
He said he will implement an order to end brewing of illicit brew to the letter because such brews have made families continue languishing in poverty because they use all their hard earned returns in drinking dens and forget about their family responsibilities.
The CC said the brewers must find alternative legal business to fend for their families or else they are also arrested and fined heavily in court.
He appealed to colleague officers from the county government to support the president’s development agenda and create a cordial working relationship because infighting will not help anyone instead it will stagnate development.
