CS Mutua in ‘trouble’ over jobs advert by Qatar company
By Peter Ochieng
Cabinet Secretary for (CS) for Labour and Social Protection Alfred Mutua attracted ‘online wrath’ from Kenyans, after sharing a job advert by a Qatar company.
“A Qatari company, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, is in Nairobi conducting interviews for various job opportunities over the next two days. If you are qualified in the following fields, please prepare for interviews,” the CS said.
According to the former Machakos governor, the company is seeking to fill positions in various fields, including hospitality and service industry and construction and technical roles.
The interviews, he said, run from Friday October 25, 2024 to Sunday, April 27, 2024 from 7.30am daily, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Nairobi.
“Be well groomed and carry the following documents: CV, Passport-size photo, Passport (if you do not have one, arrangements will be made if you are hired to secure one as soonest as possible). Please ensure you are familiar with your industry and job duties. Only candidates for the listed job openings will be allowed entry,” Mutua added.
Instead of appreciating him for the efforts, Kenyans online ganged up against the CS.
Here is a sample:
Jomo Evans Waiyaki: This is an indicator of how to be poor forever as a country. If working abroad was of any help, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Nepal etc. could be one of the richest countries in Asia. Otherwise for the sake of daily bread which is a challenge in our country due to corruption and poor governance, l can't discourage our young people to go.
George Nganga: As per the current statistics the education sector is churning out almost 1 million youth yearly. Exporting human capital isn't the solution. The rate at which companies and businesses are closing is alarming, in the future we shall be a consumer economy instead of a producer.
Kibor Keitany: Some leaders seem blissfully unaware of their own cluelessness. They’re quick to champion jobs abroad, yet can’t seem to cultivate a thriving economy at home. It’s almost as if their agenda was scribbled on a napkin—if that. We’ve learned the hard way not to let emotions vote for the wrong candidates. Next time, let’s aim for vision over charisma and strategy over slogans.
Other Kenyans however applauded the CS for linking Kenyan youth to jobs abroad.
Victor Musyoka thanked him, and requested him to help him secure the job.
