By Joshua Cheloti The Democratic Alliance Party of Kenya (DAP-K) has issued a direct nomination to four gubernatorial candidates ahead of the August 9 polls. DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa on Thursday, April 14, 2022, presided over a brief ceremony to issue the certificate to the three in Nairobi. The four are former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Ntembeya, current Bungoma governor Wycliffe Wangamati, Kisii Senator Prof. Sam Ongeri, and Busia Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi. Prof. Ongeri who recently joined DAP-K from Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will be vying for the gubernatorial seat. Mulomi will face off with former MP Paul Otuoma who recently won the ODM Busian gubernatorial nominations. The former Regional Commissioner, Natembeya is likely to be the sole candidate for the Azimio la Umoja Coalition in Trans Nzoia, with a likelihood that Jubilee and ODM will not be fielding any gubernatorial candidate in the county. He will face Kenya Kwanza's Chris Wamalwa. “George Natembeya is the ideal solution for Trans Nzoia County. After receiving his certificate today, the journey to make the green county better has just begun,” DAP-K posted on their official Twitter handle. Prof Ongeri on the other hand will fly the DAP-K ticket against a candidate that will win the ODM nominations and Ezekiel Machogu of UDA. “Kisii Senator Prof. Sam Ongeri brings on board vast public service experience and leadership that the Devolution space needs. Today we have given him the nomination certificate to deliver the Kisii Governor’s seat,” says the party. The party that has been gaining popularity in Western Kenya since ANC and Ford Kenya joined Kenya Kwanza, also issued a direct nomination to Shinyalu MP Justus Kizito, who recently joined them from ANC. Naomi Shiyonga, currently serving as a nominated Senator will fly the DAP-K’s flag in the Kakamega Woman Representative contest.
