DCI responds to claims of attempting to prevent Gachagua from attending service in Nairobi

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has responded to claims of attempting to prevent former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua from attending a church service in Nairobi, over the weekend.
On Sunday, Gachagua was in Nairobi for a church service at Priesthood Fellowship Church in Kahawa West, Nairobi County.
He made his way back to the City for the first time since relocating to his Nyeri home on Friday, November 01, 2024, upon swearing in of his replacement, Kithure Kindiki.
A report in one of the dailies claimed that DCI detectives ‘in unmarked Subaru cars’ attempted to stop Gachagua from attending the service.
The DCI in a Tuesday response, vehemently denied the allegations, stating that the agency operates within the rule of law.
“We want to clarify that these allegations are entirely false and seem to be aimed at misrepresenting the actions and intentions of the DCI. The DCI operates within the parameters established by the rule of law and has consistently affirmed its commitment to refraining from interference in the liberties of individuals and institutions,” said the Mohamed Amin led institution.
“Moreover, the claim that the writer was unable to obtain a comment from the DCI is incorrect. The Director of Criminal Investigations provided a prompt response, reaffirming the DCI's commitment to respecting the autonomy of religious institutions.”
Gachagua became the first Deputy President to be removed from office by impeachment. During the church service, he urged youth to register as voters in droves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Seemingly revealing what is happening behind the curtains, the former second in command said he is talking to various people, and will be giving a way forward in days to come.
"I’m talking to a lot of people, and when the time is right, I will tell you. We will tell you what we have discussed at the right time, so that you can also chime in and tell us what you think, ensuring we never find ourselves in such a hole again.”
Unconfirmed reports indicate that the former DP may join forces with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
