Political, social and religious groups in Meru County have continued to meet for consultation on what stand to take in relation to a proposed impeachment motion by elected MCAs against Governor Bishop Kawira Mwangaza.

Speaking to the media, a project consultant and politician Douglas Kanyamu said many people had unsuccessfully taken the initiative to reach out to Governor Kawira for talks on how to help her stay in power at least for the first five-year term.

Kanyamu claimed that all efforts were fruitless, simply because the governor was not willing to consult with anybody or listen to any form of correction or advice, as she opted to perceive everybody to be her political enemy.

The consultant regretted a most recent incident and a show of defiance, where Governor Kawira took to her social media outlets to vow against a ban issued by the CS Interior Professor Kithure Kindiki on her brain-child programme dubbed ‘Okolea’, immediately after the announcement.

He said the CS had come out clearly on the Okolea meetings, saying they had been found to be of no tangible value to the public, adding that they were purely meant to provoke and incite people into acting in a manner that compromises public peace and security.

Kanyamu commended the county legislators for taking the bold step towards saving Meru people from the prevailing political turmoil, adding that whatever was happening was literally working against development initiatives and implementation activities.

The UDA political party-aligned politician appealed for concerted efforts to have Meru work towards exploiting and tapping the high development potential for purposes of improving community livelihoods amidst the current economic hard times.

He noted that the people of Meru were looking up to those in leadership to spearhead public empowerment initiatives to enable them to mitigate against and cope with the skyrocketing taxation and cost of living affecting people of all walks of life.

Those in support of Governor Kawira’s method of leadership said whatever allegations were being made against her were purely political and spearheaded by a few people who had placed personal interests as a priority instead of effectively serving the people of Meru.
