By Joshua Cheloti United Democratic Alliance (UDA) presidential candidate who is also the Deputy President Dr. William Ruto is today, April 21, 2022, scheduled to start off bottom-up consultative meetings in Western Kenya. According to the Director of Communications for William Samoei Ruto (WSR) Presidential Campaign Hussein Mohamed, the meetings will be kicking off in Vihiga County. In a tweet, Mohammed said DP Ruto, who is also expected to be the Kenya Kwanza Coalition presidential flag bearer will be accompanied by Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Ford Kenya counterpart Moes Wetangula. The DP and his team will be in Kakamega and Bungoma on Friday for the bottom-up consultative meeting, before winding up in Busia on Saturday. During the meetings, Ruto, Mudavadi, and Wetangula alongside other leaders allied to the Kenya Kwanza coalition will be listening to the people, as they seek to identify areas of priority in the agriculture and business sector they want to be addressed. “Deputy President & UDA Presidential candidate Dr. William Ruto today kickstarts ‘Bottom Up’ consultative meetings with the people in the counties of Western Kenya,” Mohammed tweeted. “Together with Hon. Musalia Mudavadi & Hon. Moses Wetangula, the Kenya Kwanza coalition leaders will be in Vihiga county to listen to priorities & solutions as proposed by Kenyans in the agriculture and business sectors,” he added. Proposals from locals would be used to form the basis of the UDA and Kenya Kwanza economic blueprint. So far, the bottom-up consultative meetings have been held in some counties of the vote-rich Mount Kenya region among them Nyeri. “Bottom-Up is a revolutionary approach that will democratize economic opportunity in Kenya,” Hussein Mohammed said. A visit to Western Kenya comes at a time DP Ruto is preparing to name his running mate. Reports indicate that the second in command has already ruled out the possibility of picking Mudavadi for the position, as he is narrowing down on an individual from Mount Kenya. Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki, Mathira MP Righathi Gachagua, Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru, and National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi have been listed as possible candidates.
