East Africa Portland Cement (EAPC) is offering to sell some parcels of land to the public in Mavoko, Athi River Sub County despite an ongoing demolition exercise of properties built on the company's land in the same area.

In a notice issued today in one of the local dailies, EAPC is seeking to sell LR NO 8784/144,145 and 653 through a regularization model.

Priority will be given to the parties currently occupying the land. "Those in this kind of situation are advised to state their claim of the same within 14 days from the date of this notice," read part of the notice.

After the expiry of the notice, all unclaimed portions will be competitively sold to the general public on a willing buyer -seller basis.

Hundreds of families were rendered homeless and property worth millions of shillings lost after the company demolished houses, churches and schools that were illegally constructed on its land.

The demolitions started last Friday after a Machakos High Court issued a ruling on Monday 9 declaring EAPC as the legal owners of the contested 4,298 acres of land.

Following the demolitions Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka led a section of local leaders to condemn the move.

"The destruction of property is inhumane. Innocent families have been left to spend nights in the cold," said Musyoka during a press briefing on Saturday at the Machakos Governor's office.

Governor Wavinya Ndeti faulted the government for the demolitions saying she was saddened by the turn of events.
