Marakwet West Sub-county farmers have been given free pyrethrum seeds, as a means for boosting the white gold revolution in the County.

To continue in the "white gold" revolution, Elgeyo Marakwet Governor, Wesley Rotich, Tuesday, led the distribution of 52 kilograms of pyrethrum seeds to farmers in Marakwet West Sub County.

The initiative aims to empower local farmers and promote the cultivation of pyrethrum, a high-value cash crop, that holds immense economic potential for the region.

The seeds distributed during this event, are expected to cover 130 acres of land, directly benefiting more than 500 local farmers.

Pyrethrum, known for its insecticidal properties and its potential in the production of organic pesticides, is often referred to as "white gold", due to its economic significance.

Kentegra Company, a key player in the pyrethrum industry, is collaborating with local farmers, to boost production and facilitate the sale of pyrethrum flowers.

The Company has already purchased over 14 tonnes of pyrethrum flowers from farmers in the County and is committed to expanding its support, to meet the growing demand. The next Phase of this initiative is set to target additional wards in the region.

Speaking at Matira in Kapsowar Ward, Governor Rotich, expressed his gratitude to County residents for their enthusiastic response to his call, to engage in cash crop cultivation. He emphasized that the effort is vital in lifting the local population out of poverty, and foster economic development.

"The cultivation of cash crops, particularly pyrethrum, is a sure gateway for our residents to escape from poverty and improve their livelihoods," Governor Rotich remarked.

He further encouraged those interested in pyrethrum farming, to contact County agriculture officers and Kentegra field officers, for registration and guidance.

The distribution of free pyrethrum seeds, marks a significant milestone in the "white gold" revolution, and local farmers are eager to embrace the opportunity. Pyrethrum cultivation offers numerous benefits, not only in terms of economic sustainability, but also for its environmentally friendly attributes.

Pyrethrum is a natural source of pyrethrin, a powerful insecticide, used in manufacturing many pest control products. By growing pyrethrum, farmers contribute to the production of a valuable resource that can reduce the need for chemical pesticides, thus promoting sustainable and eco-friendly agriculture practices.

In addition to being environmentally friendly, the pyrethrum industry, has the potential to create jobs and stimulate economic growth in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

As the demand for pyrethrum products, such as insecticides and pesticides, continues to rise globally, the region is poised to reap substantial benefits from its natural resources.

The Collaborative efforts between the government, local farmers, and Kentegra Company, exemplify the commitment to harnessing the potential of pyrethrum cultivation in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

The Company's dedication to increasing seed supply, is a testament to its confidence in the region's ability to thrive in the pyrethrum industry.

Farmers who have already engaged with Kentegra Company, have reported positive experiences, praising the support they have received and the opportunities for income generation.

As the pyrethrum industry expands, it is expected that more farmers will join the initiative, further elevating the region's status, as a pyrethrum production hub.

The "white gold" revolution is a transformative endeavor, that not only uplifts the local economy, but also promotes environmental sustainability.

By distributing free pyrethrum seeds and facilitating the sale of pyrethrum flowers, Elgeyo Marakwet County, is demonstrating its commitment, to the welfare and prosperity of its residents.

The distribution of free pyrethrum seeds and the ongoing collaboration with Kentegra Company, underscore the importance of public-private partnerships, in driving agricultural development.

The Government and private sector collaboration, not only provides farmers with resources, but also establishes a market for their produce, ensuring a win-win situation.

As more farmers embark on pyrethrum cultivation, the region is well on its way to becoming a key player in the industry, benefiting both the local population and the global market.

With the promise of increased economic opportunities and a greener approach to pest control, Elgeyo Marakwet's "white gold" revolution is undoubtedly a step in the right direction.
