In a significant step toward enhancing agricultural development and enhancing food security, the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP) has initiated a comprehensive training program for 50 enumerators in Bomachoge Chache constituency, Kisii County.

The training, which spans three days and commenced at the Gucha Deputy County Commissioner's boardroom, aims to equip enumerators with the skills necessary to profile and map local farmers.

At the official opening of the training, Gucha Subcounty Administrator Lilian Nyamesa emphasized the importance of the enumerators' role in shaping the future of farming in the region. She emphasized that the information gathered by these enumerators would play a pivotal role in helping the government achieve its objectives of empowering small-scale farmers and mitigating food scarcity, in line with the Bottom-Up Economic Agenda.

"The data being recorded will go the extra mile to help the government achieve its set goals of helping the small-scale farmers get value from their produce. This project is aligned with the government's agenda to eradicate famine and high food costs in the country," said Nyamesa.

The project's primary will prioritize several key value chains, including avocado farming, coffee cultivation, banana farming, dairy production, and poultry farming. These sectors have been identified as the primary agricultural activities in the Kisii region, and the government aims to optimize their potential for economic growth and food security.

The enumerators, who have undergone rigorous training, will be responsible for collecting data that will guide policymakers, agricultural experts and development partners in tailoring interventions to benefit farmers in the area effectively.

The collection will be over a period of 25 days, with the aim of driving positive change and prosperity in Bomachoge Chache constituency and the wider Kisii County agricultural landscape.

A minimum of 15 farmers per day will be registered as part of the data collection process.
