Equity Bank boosts Kisumu County's fight against communicable diseases

Equity Bank foundation has donated personal protective equipment, in a bid to intensify the fight against Covid-19 pandemic and other communicable diseases in Kisumu County.

The personal protective equipment, pharmaceutical and non pharmaceutical supplies are valued at Sh12.5 million.

Receiving the donation on Tuesday, County Minister for Public Service, Judith Oluoch acknowledged the continuous support from the foundation.

"This particular donation will go a long way in protecting the frontline workers from the deadly effects of the pandemic, as well as help in  bridging the gap in fighting the current emerging communicable diseases," she said.

Kisumu is currently grappling with a cholera outbreak, with five cases having been reported so far in Nyalenda A and Nyalenda B.

Residents have been urged to take precautionary measures to avoid contracting the disease, such as washing hands with soap and clean water and boiling drinking water.

Equity Bank's Ang'awa Street Branch manager Alice Ouma, reaffirmed the foundation's committment to support the health sector in Kisumu County.

"The partnership shall prosper to better the society and the people at large," she said.

The consignment included surgical masks, protective goggles, face shields, gowns, disposable scrubs and aprons among others.
