Real Madrid, AC Milan book Champions League semi final slots

Chelsea and Napoli are out of the 2022/2023 Champions League action.

The sides were dumped out by Real Madrid and AC Milan respectively, after quarter final second leg games on Tuesday night.

At Stamford Bridge in London, Chelsea interim manager Frank Lampard succumbed to his fourth defeat in four matches, as his Blues side went down 0-2 against defending Champions Real Madrid.

Brazilian foward Rodrygo scored both Madrid's goals in the 58th and 80th minutes, with Vinicius Junior and Federico Valverde being the assist providers.

Chelsea lost the quarter final tie 4-0 on aggregate after twin 2-0 loses home and away.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti's dream for a historic fifth win as a coach will continue with a semi-final against either Bayern Munich or Manchester City.

City lead Bayern 3-0 from the first leg. The two sides meet in Munich for the second leg tonight.

At the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona stadium in Naples, Italy, AC Milan reached the Champions League semi-finals for the first time since winning the competition in 2007, after they saw off Serie A rivals Napoli.

The second leg tie ended 1-1 as AC Milan progressed with a 2-1 aggregate. Milan won the first leg 1-0.

Napoli, Serie A champions in waiting dominated early on, but Milan won a penalty with one of their first attacks.

Olivier Giroud's spot-kick was saved by Alex Meret. The Frenchman saved his face with the opening goal when he tapped in following a a run by Rafael Leao in 43rd minute.

Napoli were handed a way to back into the game when Fikayo Tomori handled the ball in the box, but Milan shot stopper Mike 'Magic' Maignan saved Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's penalty.

Luciano Spalletti's side eventually scored through a Victor Osimhen header with seconds remaining in the match.

AC Milan will face either Inter Milan or SL Benfica in the semis. Inter are 2-0 up from the first leg.
